Pine Needle Essential Oil
Pine Needle Essential Oil
Pinus Sylvertris
Pine oils have strong, penetrating, fresh coniferous odours - their dominant constituents are called pinene and these are the abundant terpenes in the natural world. Pine oils and their pinene are used in many household cleaning products so often the scent of pine essential oil provokes comments about how its odour is reminiscent of disinfectant.
Pine is viewed as an analgesic, antibacterial, antibiotic, anti fungal, antiseptic and antiviral oil. It is good as a circulatory agent, decongestant and deodorant. Pine is valued as extraordinary for the respiratory system, helping with decongestion. It has been applied to eczema, cuts, lice, muscular aches, neuralgia, psoriasis, rheumatism, ringworm, scrapes and sinusitis. Other therapeutic properties include anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, antispasmodic, decongestant, expectorant, pain reliever, rubefacient and warming. Pine is considered safe since it is non-toxic and non-irritant but should be used with caution on the skin since it can cause irritation in high dosage and may sensitive the skin.
Precaution:
If you are allergic to pine trees, don’t use pine oil. While not considered common, some people are allergic pine pollen. You might be allergic to pine essential oil if you develop allergy-like symptoms, such as sneezing or skin rashes.
In general, most medical experts agree that aromatherapy is a safer option for pregnant women as opposed to topical applications. This simply means that you should use your essential oils in a diffuser rather than applying them to your skin.
